Livin' the hard life

When I signed up for the Peace Corps, this is definitely not what I had in mind. But you know what? I'll take it.

On Wednesday my friend Kali and I decided it was time to go swimming. Since the weather has started to be spring like we were getting excited about spring time activities.  Kali, who works in Bansko at one of the hotels, is pretty familiar with the area.  She thought it would be a good idea to go to Hotel Strazhite (Хотел Стражите) and check out their Spa Centre.  (Unfortunately, it's not like Embassy Suites in Abilene where you could just "visit" their indoor pool! So I busted out the bathing suit and hoped there wouldn't be any cute boys at the pool! :)

We paid our 15 leva ($10) and walked into a beautiful Spa Centre. Our money included the fitness center, pool, steam room and sauna. There was also a masseuse there. No doubt I paid a few extra leva to get myself a massage. I'm considering it a slightly early birthday present to myself!  We spent about four hours hanging out in the pool and the other areas. What was awesome is that for about the first 3 hours and 40 minutes we were the only people there.  We had the entire spa area to ourselves... it was wonderful.  We also decided we're going to go check out the other hotels before most of them close down for the summer. (Peak season is ski season and when that's over, a majority of the hotels in Bansko close down temporarily.)

So there ya go... it's the hard life of a PCV in Bulgaria. (Or maybe one who just happened to be placed in one of the best regions in BG - SWBG!)

AND, way too early tomorrow morning I'm getting on a bus for Sofia.  We have a tourism meeting on Friday and then on Friday night I'll be boarding another bus for Skopje, Macedonia with two other PCV's. (Guess I'll be celebrating most of my birthday on a bus!)

Yo, Veeves! Love the post and hope you get to make the hotel spa rounds and give us the definitive report. Hope you have a wonderful birthday celebration, and I know you can do it, even if you have to do it on a bus!!
